A superb British bakelite school/office wall clock. This is a pretty rare model with the Smiths English Clock Systems motto and the slim hands. Made in the 1950s.

The larger case is Bakelite and has been hand-polished to a lovely warm lustre. The dial is still a nice, clean white colour and shows light overall foxing. The hands are in good order. The glass is in good order with a few light marks commensurate with its age.

Overall dia. 37cm, depth 7.5cm.

Fitted with a high quality battery quartz mechanism that is fully guaranteed for twelve months. Requires one AA battery which is supplied with the clock.

Description

A 1950s Gents of Leicester Bakelite cased vintage wall clock showing some ageing. I presume it was made for a business called Merrichest.

The Bakelite case originally showed a lot of age, and I presume it had been neglected for years  As a result there was overall oxidisation to the Bakelite’s surface. Some of this has been removed, but I did not want to lose its character. The surface is now a satin look. The dial has barely suffered and looks great. The hands are in pretty good order. The glass is in good order with a few light marks commensurate with its age. A rare piece.

Overall dia. 32cm, depth 8cm.

Fitted with a high quality battery quartz mechanism that is fully guaranteed for twelve months. Requires one AA battery which is supplied with the clock.
